Officially founded in 2008, Chin Xaou Ti Won is a Houston-based audio project specializing in ambient sound structures and avant-garde grade synth-pop infused with a stylistic approach to contemporary classical music. Musicians Marcus Cone and Ian Travis use a myriad of synthesizers, electronics, processing devices and computer hardware/software while organically embedding layers of live percussion and found sound, creating a unique atmosphere uncommon to music typically attributed to the electronic sub-genre. Chin Xaou Ti Won’s sound draws heavily on ‘80s new wave, anime-pop/video game music and 20th century minimalism. Commonly referred to as film music, CXTW’s sound is built around the notion of focal melodies as a musical core, from the simplistic, yet catchy, to the lush and contemplative.
Nudging their way into the Houston art scene, Chin Xaou Ti Won has performed at a number of galleries, including the Contemporary Art Museum, Houston and Lawndale, as well as claiming the title of Musicians-in-Residence at local Houston gallery, Skydive. Outside of Houston, CXTW has performed at the Julia C. Butridge gallery in Austin and is part of the Do For It music collective based out of Denton, Texas.
